AKC National Coonhound Championship
May 8th - 10th 2008
The top-winning coonhounds in the United States are coming to Greensburg in May to compete for the
grandest of prizes ever awarded to a coonhound and its owner.
By virtue of placing in the top sixteen winner's bracket in their respective states or within
their breeds (there are six recognized breeds of coonhounds) during 2007, the owners of the dogs are
invited to compete in the AKC National Coonhound Championship to be held at the Decatur County 4-H Fairgrounds in May.
Two hundred coonhounds and their owners will participate in the Nite Hunt competition with another
50 to 100 expected to enter the National Championship bench show.
The grand prize for the hunt competition is a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab pickup with the custom
Remington Arms Company conversion by the Regency Corporation of Forth Worth, Texas. Interested
parties may view this amazing truck at the Tom Sibbitt Chevrolet -- Cadillac showroom in Greensburg
between now and May 8th. At that the truck will be moved to the Decatur County 4-H Fairgrounds for the
three-day AKC National Coonhound Championship event where the owner of the winning dog will take possession
of the title and keys to the sport of coon hunting's grandest prize.
The three-day (and night) event
will include the AKC National Coonhound Championship Bench Show on Saturday, May 10th. A special award
banquet will be held at 5 PM on Saturday to honor the Top 16 finalists in the National Championship competition.
The top six winners in the 2007 national Black Gold Dog Food Bench Show Spectacular competition will
also be honored at the banquet as well as receiving award checks totaling $10 thousand from the
event's sponsor, Black Gold Dog Food.
